  • Potenza RF Microneedling vs Plasma Pen

If you have signs of aging, you’ve probably heard of numerous cosmetic treatments that can address your various concerns. With so many options, it can be challenging to determine the best procedure for your specific needs. Microneedling and Plasma Pen are two of the best non-surgical aesthetic treatments for skin rejuvenation. But, how do you determine which one is better? The short answer is that the Plasma Pen by Louise Walsh device can provide more dramatic results, but whether or not it is a better treatment choice for you will depend on the extent of your cosmetic concerns as well as other factors your provider can evaluate. In some cases, patients can benefit from undergoing both treatments. Read on to learn more about Plasma Pen vs. Microneedling and which one might be best for you. WHAT’S COVERED IN THIS ARTICLE? How They Work: Similarly The Technology/Methodology They Use: Different What They Treat: Similar The Extent of Their Results: Different Treatment Times: Similar Number of Treatments Recommended: Different Downtime: Different Combining Plasma Pen and Microneedling Treatments HOW THEY WORK: SIMILARLY BOTH PLASMA PEN AND RF MICRONEEDLING STIMULATE WOUND HEALING FOR SKIN RENEWAL Plasma Fibroblast and microneedling work in similar ways by creating mico-injuries in the skin that stimulate wound healing. This process creates new collagen and elastin in the skin, which results in firmer, smoother skin with fewer wrinkles and less sagging. The surface of the skin is also renewed, improving your overall complexion. As non-surgical treatments, neither one requires incisions nor results in scars. THE TECHNOLOGY/METHODOLOGY THEY USE: DIFFERENT PLASMA PEN TECHNOLOGY The plasma pen offers a revolutionary skin resurfacing treatment that’s different from resurfacing treatments we’ve seen before. It targets the skin’s cellular level without physically penetrating or even touching the skin’s surface. Using low-frequency (LF) energy, converts oxygen and nitrogen from the air into plasma (an ionized gas), which is then delivered into the deep layers of skin through tiny channels (micro-injuries). This process promotes the production of new collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin while tightening the connective tissues for smoother, more even skin. MICRONEEDLING METHODOLOGY Microneedling involves ultra-fine needles that create controlled punctures in the skin. These medical-grade needles enter the skin and produce micro-injuries that promote the body to send nutrients to the skin and stimulate collagen and elastin p roduction. WHAT THEY TREAT: SIMILAR Microneedling and Plasma Pen can both treat the following concerns: Fine lines Wrinkles Enlarged pores Dark spots (age spots/sunspots) Scarring (acne scars, injury scars, etc.) Stretch marks Rough skin texture Can be done on any part of the body Plasma Pen by Louise Walsh can also address mild to moderate skin laxity, including: Upper eyelid hooding Loose skin along the jawline (jowls) Lines on the neck THE EXTENT OF THEIR RESULTS: DIFFERENT PLASMA PEN HAS LIMITATIONS Plasma pen resurfacing targets the deep layers of skin for more dramatic skin tightening and restructuring in just one session. Unfortunately however, Plasma Fibroblast can only be done on lighter toned skin types. (Fitzpatricks 1-4) TREATMENT TIMES: SIMILAR Plasma Pen and Potenza Microneedling are quick and effective treatments that won’t take up your whole day. Either treatment can generally be completed in less than an hour once numb. Smaller areas can be done in 20 to 30 minutes. NUMBER OF TREATMENTS RECOMMENDED: DIFFERENT ONE OR A FEW INITIAL PLASMA PEN TREATMENTS ARE RECOMMENDED Just a single plasma pen treatment can achieve dramatic skin rejuvenating results. However, those with advanced signs of aging may consider two or three subsequent treatments if their desired results aren’t achieved after one session. PLASMA FIBROBLAST MAINTENANCE TREATMENTS You can choose to undergo regular plasma pen resurfacing treatments every 2-4 years to maintain your results. How you care for your skin in-between treatments is KEY! AN INITIAL SERIES OF POTENZA RF MICRONEEDLING SESSIONS IS RECOMMENDED An initial series of 2-3 Potenza RF Microneedling treatments is recommended (spaced out 30 days apart), to achieve optimal results, as more dramatic results can be seen after each session. Potenza RF Microneedling can be done on ANY SKIN TYPE, any time of year. MICRONEEDLING MAINTENANCE TREATMENTS Many patients choose to get Potenza Microneedling with Radiofrequency treatments done 1-2 times per year to maintain their youthful appearance. Each Potenza treatment is as powerful as 3 Microneedling SkinPen treatments! Maintenance Microneedling SkinPen treatment is commonly done 2-3 times per year. DOWNTIME: DIFFERENT MODEST DOWNTIME NEEDED AFTER PLASMA PEN RESURFACING Patients usually take three to seven days off from work and social activities while healing from Plasma Pen treatment. To avoid creating additional inflammation in the first week, we advise against engaging in activities that can cause you to overheat or sweat for 1 week. After plasma pen treatment, your skin will likely be red and feel warm, similar to a sunburn. Small dots will be visible on your skin after treatment and last for a couple of days, after which small scabs will form and fall off within 5 to 14 days depending on anatomical location. MINIMAL DOWNTIME NEEDED AFTER MICRONEEDLING OR MICRONEEDLING WITH RF Because microneedling treatments are less intense on the top layers of the skin than Plasma Pen treatment, minimal downtime is needed most can resume their usual activities without any restrictions after 24-48 hours. CAN I COMBINE PLASMA FIBROBLAST AND MICRONEEDLING TREATMENTS? Yes! For those with extensive aging concerns, Plasma Pen can be combined with microneedling pen and microneedling with RF treatments. • Radiofrequency Microneedling with Potenza

A new and advanced spin to the standard pen treatment, RF Microneedling uses the same method as the SkinPen to puncture the skin with microscopic needles. However, there’s the added use of radiofrequency in this treatment. Glow Skin Science uses Radiofrequency Microneedling technology called Potenza™ by Cynosure. It emits radiofrequency waves directly into the punctures created by the microneedles, which intensify the damage to the skin. Skin damage is actually a good thing when you’re talking about controlled micro trauma or microneedling, so the increased damage caused by the radiofrequency waves promotes even more production of collagen and elastin. Since it produces more collagen, Potenza RF Microneedling fights more intense signs of aging. It also has the added benefit of correcting harsher pigment issues and discolorations than the SkinPen. The radiofrequency waves actually downregulate melanin in the skin and even out the overall skin tone. Finally, the biggest benefit of Radiofrequency Microneedling is that it tightens up loose skin. In addition to increasing the production of elastin, which is where that youthful skin gets its glow, radiofrequency waves reach down to treat the tissue in the subdermal layer. This deeper treatment ends up tightening the skin on the surface. So, to recap, in addition to the regular benefits of microneedling, the powerful treatment of RF Microneedling better addresses: Deep wrinkles Age spots/Discoloration Stretch Marks Sagging skin Severe acne scarring Deep scars from surgery or injury Potenza Radiofrequency Microneedling with Tiger Tip™ technology performs like no topical (or even filler) ever could, actually stimulating your body’s collagen and elastin levels to treat the advanced signs of aging. Skin looks younger, firmer.* And texture, tone and clarity? Smoothed, brightened and improved. Stimulates new collagen production to not only give you tighter, firmer-looking skin, but younger-acting skin. Targets blemishes for a smoother, more radiant complexion. Provides faster healing time than traditional microneedling. What separates Potenza™ from some other skin revitalization options is that Potenza™ treatments can be performed on all skin types, anywhere on the body during any time of the year. The device’s four modes allow us to completely individualize treatments for our clients looking for the most effective technologies. The NEWEST Technology in Microneedling. Compared to Morpheus 8, but with less pain and downtime. 1 Radiofrequency microneedling treatment is the equivalent to 3 microneedling PEN sessions!" ✨Little to no downtime ✨Minimal to zero pain ✨Customized to each individual ✨Can be used anywhere on body or face Is Microneedling right for you? If you’re looking to go beyond the standard benefits of microneedling and address increased signs of aging and skin damage, RF Microneedling is a great choice for you. • Dermaplaning vs Shaving

Dermaplaning: has been a go-to esthetic service since the 70’s!! ▪️What is the difference between SHAVING your face and DERMAPLANING? Shaving the face removes the vellus hair, commonly referred to as “peach fuzz”. Professional dermaplaning also removes vellus hair but has additional benefits that cannot be achieved by any other single service. Dermaplaning is an exfoliation treatment, with the added benefit of removing vellus hairs. With dermaplaning, a trained esthetician uses a sterile surgical #10 blade to remove vellus hairs and dead skin cells. Vellus hairs trap oil and dirt on the skin surface, especially for individuals with oily skin. The build up of dead skin cells dulls the skin and can clog pores. At home facial razors are not able to achieve the same level of depth to remove the dead skin cells. They can be used to maintain the vellus hair growth, if that is the individual’s primary concern. Regardless of the experience one has, the effects of shaving at home will not compare to those of professional dermaplaning. When vellus hairs and dead skin cells are removed, skincare products penetrate deeper into the skin, allowing the ingredients to work better and makeup goes on smoother. Immediately after dermaplaning your skin will feel softer and look brighter. There is no downtime associated with dermaplaning. It is recommended to get treatment every 4-6 weeks, based on the rate of cell turnover. Every 26-28 days, new cells push dead skin cells to the surface, blocking the pores. Dermaplaning is an alternative to microdermabrasion, as it is much gentler for those with sensitive skin or broken capillaries. What to Know After Dermaplaning? ▪️Avoid direct sun exposure for 3 days. ▪️Avoid extreme heat for 3 days. ▪️Do not use scrubs or other exfoliants for 1 week. ▪️Avoid chlorine for 1 week. ▪️Good daily skincare routine using serums and moisturizers. ▪️Always use sun protection ▪️ Not a good service for Rosacea or ultra sensitive skin types. Pre-wedding skincare timeline for looking and feeling your best. Prioritize healthy skin There are many chronic skin conditions that can affect the confidence an individual has in his or her appearance. Chronic acne is a common problem and others may suffer from rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, blackheads, hyperpigmentation, melasma and more. Working with a Seasoned Master Esthetician and finding an effective regimen 6 -12 months before the stressors of a wedding begin – is critical. As the wedding draws nearer, your Esthetician can help you shape a game plan to achieve hydrated skin that appears smooth and dewy. The following are just a few of the treatments our Master Esthetician at Glow Skin Science offers: Chemical peels such as BioRe Peel, PRX, Perfect Derma Peel or a classic salicylic peel Dermaplaning can be added onto any facial treatment Hydro Facial for clearer, cleaner, dewy skin Microneedling Pen or RF Microneedling for treating everything from acne scars to skin tightening, fat reduction, and body sculpting Warm / Cold Atmospheric Plasma for rejuvenation, resurfacing, disinfecting and healing Tailored topical regimens for specific concerns such as fine lines & wrinkles, dry skin, oily skin, rosacea, discoloration and acne. #dermaplaning #dermaplanefacial #everettdermaplanning #everettmedspa #dermaplanefacial #lynnwoodskintightening #coldjetplasma #microneedling #lynnwoodsalon #everettesthetician #rfmicroneedling #acnefacial #millcreek #acnepeel #chemicalpeel 6w

  • What is Plasma Fibroblast?

As a skincare professional, I always try to keep up with technology, and one of the newest device treatments is called Fibroblast or Plasma Pen treatment. So here’s the low-down on these devices and all the dirty details about how to get a safe, legitimate treatment (also whether or not it might be safe for YOU!) Make sure you read all the way to the bottom about scary versions of this technology! Plasma, as in blood? Not in this case. Plasma is a gas made up of positively charged ions from the air. It’s generally created through a cloud of gas (mostly nitrogen) that is magnetized into a beam transmitted from the device. Picture those fun electric balls you have seen as a kid and how it jumps from the base to your finger as you touch the glass. Electric energy converts gas from the air into “diatomic molecular nitrogen,” mostly oxygen and nitrogen. It is then transmitted to the skin’s surface in a non-contact way. It literally will not fire if it’s too far away or if it touches the skin. Why do I need this treatment? Plasma heats and disrupts all the way down to your dermal layer of skin to create micro-trauma to the tissue. The surface is lightly ablated with a “fanning” technique, at which time the technician creates the little dots in the tissue. Those dots are tiny blood clots with a small scab over the top, which means that unlike with CO2, the tissue is completely closed. This prevents the likelihood of infection risks, making it safer even than Microneedling. This damage especially targets the “fibroblasts” in the inner part of your dermis. I know, lots of biology here… but keep reading! It is a much more predictable result than ablative lasers, and it doesn’t create unnecessary damage. Fibroblast services truly targets the tissue that needs repair and takes care of it. They are also far less risky because the tissue is closed immediately so there’s less chance of infection or permanent damage. It also has: How does it outperform CO2 or Ablative Lasers? Less risk of hyper-pigmentation than ablative lasers Significantly less downtime Equal or greater results Shorter window of sun sensitivity than many lasers No blood, no open wounds Rapid healing time Average result holds 3 years Who should NOT have this treatment? Unfortunately, it is not for everyone, but have no fear there are many treatments that are, and I can help you make the best decision for you. No treatment on a port wine stain or birthmark Breastfeeding If you are a Fitzpatrick Skin Type V or VI Hemophiliacs Hepatitis/HIV/AIDS If you hyper-pigment/hypo-pigment easily Lupus Epileptics If you’ve ever had Gold Therapy for Rheumatoid Arthritis Pregnancy Hypertrophic or Keloid Scarring occurs No eye treatments if you have Retinal Detachment Vitilago Currently using Accutane, Cortosteroids, Blood Thinners, Antabuse The Knock Offs There are a TON of Chinese production knock offs of this device. They are very, very cheaply made. They are purchased online and come with little-to-no training. Additionally, they are unreliable and can cause serious and sometimes PERMANENT damage to your skin. It is CRITICAL when scheduling this service that you get the answer to the question: What brand of pen are you using? What can go wrong with the knock offs? The technician is UNTRAINED and drilling holes in your skin. That alone is the scariest thought. They can put the holes too close together, causing a risk of wounds and sores and open tissue that’s unprotected. This can lead to infection! They can put the holes too far apart or not in the right spots making your downtime a waste and leaving you with very little result for your treatment. They can create the spots at too short OR too long an interval, creating permanent damage or again making it ineffective. The scariest stuff happens if they don’t know who SHOULDN’T be treated. You can have permanent damage like: Infection in the tissue Keloid scarring Permanent brown dots in the area Tissue scarring Permanent pink dots in the area Excessive bleeding Permanent white dots in the area The discounted prices for these services are NOT worth the potential headaches of permanent damage. Additionally, without proper training, insurance companies WILL NOT insure these technicians without certification, meaning you will have little recourse if permanent damage occurs. I am now offering Plasma Pen Treatments at my NEW LOCATION in Bothell, WA! (Starting June 2020) Get on the calendar now and reserve your spot! Please note: Before any treatment can be performed, a 30-45 minute consultation must be scheduled at a fee of $75, which will be credited to your bill at the end of the treatment. (Why do I charge for a consultation? Normally I don't, but when it comes to Plasma it is super important that you and I sit down and discuss the treatment in depth to determine whether Plasma is right for you or not. Please schedule your consultation online for your convenience. * Testimonials do not represent a guarantee of results.
